San Jose State women’s soccer (5-5-2, 4-1-0 MW) scored two unanswered goals in the second half and defeated Nevada (4-7-2, 1-4-0 MW) on the road 2-1.
The Spartans have won four out of their last five games and improved their record to .500.
The game was predominantly a defensive battle between the two teams. The first half consisted of only one goal, which was scored by Wolf Pack freshman forward Olivia Carter at the 41:59 mark.
The Spartans were able to bounce back in the second half scoring two of their own.
At 54:08, sophomore midfielder Karlee Pottorff tied up the game when she was awarded a free kick that she promptly put in the back of the net for her first goal of the season.
Shortly after, freshman defender Haleigh Wynne scored her first goal in a Spartan uniform at 61:51 and put SJSU ahead of Nevada for good.
Senior goalkeeper Paige Simoneau put on a show and only had to make two saves the entire night.
Out of SJSU’s nine shots, Pottorff, Wynne, and senior forward Darriell Franklin all recorded two.
The Spartans look to continue the momentum and keep the confidence alive when they play the UNLV Lady Rebels in Las Vegas on Sunday at 1 p.m.
