Coming off a 2-0 conference start, San Jose State women’s soccer welcome San Diego State University and New Mexico to San Jose this weekend.

San Jose (3-4-2, 1-0-1 MW) are facing San Diego (3-6-1, 1-0-1 MW)  in the first of the two matches.

The last time the Spartans and the Aztecs faced off was in October of last season when the game ended in a scoreless draw. San Diego is coming off a win against Wyoming and a draw against Colorado State in its first week of conference play.

Aztec sophomore Chloe Frisch is going to be the player the Spartans have to watch on Friday. The midfielder is currently leading her team in points after scoring on Wyoming last weekend.

Frisch is going to meet a brick wall when facing SJSU senior goalkeeper Paige Simoneau, who has allowed six goals on 32 attempts while racking up four shutouts this season.

SJSU will return to the Spartan Soccer Field on Sunday to take on New Mexico (5-4-0, 1-1-0 MW).

The Spartans and the Lobos last meeting ending in a 3-2 loss for SJSU in the Mountain West Tournaments when New Mexico broke the 2-2 regulation tie in penalty kicks which lost SJSU the tournament.

Lobos freshman forward Alesia Garcia is leading New Mexico in points with five goals this season, making her the player to watch in Sunday’s match.

The Spartans are dedicating Friday’s game to junior forward Jamilecxth Beccera’s 7-year-old brother Julian, who is currently fighting Adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD). The Spartans will be selling #TeamJulian bracelets at the game and are donating all the money raised to the Becerra family to help cover Julian’s medical expenses.

Friday’s game against San Diego starts at 6:30 p.m. and kick off for Sunday’s match against New Mexico is at 1 p.m.
