San Jose State volleyball had a downfall this weekend as it went 1-2 at the Florida Atlantic University Owls Classic.
It was a rough start for the Spartans (5-4) as they said goodbye to their four-match winning streak Friday morning against the University of North Florida (4-10).
The Spartans won the first and fourth set, but lost the fifth 15-10, putting them at a 3-2 loss to start out the tournament.
From there, momentum was lost as SJSU got swept by host Florida Atlantic University (9-3) in the second match of the day..
Although they lost the Friday matches, there were some phenomenal plays executed by the Spartans.
Senior outside hitter Fernanda Vido achieved a season-best of 23 kills, along with seven digs. For the second match of the day, Vido managed to get all 10 Spartan kills against FAU.
Freshman middle blocker Haylee Nelson also contributed by getting a team-best six block assists against UNF.
Senior libero Luiza Andrade started strong defensively in the first match with a season-best of 24 digs. Andrade also got 13 digs in the second match against FAU.
Freshman setter Mamie Garard continues to be a strong member of the team by getting her first collegiate double-double, along with 34 assists and 13 digs against UNF.
In its lone Saturday match, SJSU bounced back and pulled off a much needed sweep against South Dakota State (3-10).
The Spartans will start conference play at home against Wyoming on Thursday.
