SJSU women’s volleyball prepares for tournament in Colorado

San Jose State women’s volleyball (1-3) is away this weekend playing in the Hampton Inn & Suites Northern Colorado Classic against Northern Colorado (2-4), Alabama State (3-5) and Pacific (3-3).

The Spartans look to secure the first win of the weekend against the Bears who have a home record of 1-2. UNC had a final record of 14-16 in the 2017 season while SJSU finished 17-12. The matchup should be quite competitive even though the teams have never played one another.

The match against Alabama State will be the first between the teams as well. The Hornets will be looking to end a four-game losing streak. The Spartans will try to capitalize on the Hornet’s slump and take home the win. Neither team will have too much of an advantage since both teams will be traveling for the tournament.

SJSU will play Pacific on Saturday in the final match of the tournament. The last time the two teams faced off was during the 2013 season. The Tigers beat the Spartans 3-0. SJSU will have a slight advantage by being more rested. Pacific’s last game on Friday is not until 6 p.m. while the Spartans’ is at 4 p.m.

Opponents will have their hands full this weekend defending Spartan redshirt junior Fernanda Vido, as well as redshirt sophomore Lousi Latahevai. Vido and Latahevai lead the team statistically so far this season on the attack for San Jose.

SJSU will play Northern Colorado at 12 p.m. and Alabama State at 4 p.m. Friday. On Saturday morning, the Spartans wrap up the three-game weekend with a 10 a.m. matchup against Pacific.
