Once again, San Jose State baseball survived a ninth inning scare and defeated the Rebels 10-8.
The Spartans (21-24, 11-12 MW) won their fourth consecutive three-game series after taking two of three from UNLV (30-19, 11-13 MW).
Starter Tevin Cadola pitched through trouble most of the game, but finished with six innings of work to get his second win on the year.
The offense exploded for the third-straight day with 12 or more hits. The Spartans had a trio of three-run innings to make up for the offense.
Early on, both teams went back and forth in scoring and it was tied at four after three innings.
In the fourth, senior left fielder Brett Bautista gave the Spartans a 6-4 lead with a two-run single. First baseman Shane Timmons followed with a double of his own, knocking in Bautista.
SJSU extended the lead to 10-5 with a three-run seventh inning. Third baseman Kyle Morrison picked up an RBI after being walked with the bases loaded. Senior David Campbell knocked in two more with a base hit.
Reliever Finneas Del-Bonta Smith got the final three outs, however he struggled in doing so for the second day in a row.
After allowing two runs, he was able to get a huge strikeout stranding the bases loaded and securing the victory.
Four Spartans had multiple-hit days with Campbell leading the way going 4-for-5 with three RBI.
Sophomore center fielder Kellen Strahm’s 18-game hit streak came to an end after he went 0-4. In the span of his hitting streak, he rose his batting average from .255 to .317.
SJSU has now won 11 of their last 16 games.
The Spartans will now head to San Luis Obispo Wednesday night for a matchup against Cal Poly.
