San Jose State’s softball team suffered a 10-3 defeat against Colorado State, shattering its chances to sweep the series.
Coming off two high-scoring victories of 20-4 on Friday and 11-4 on Saturday, the Spartans (27-15, 11-6 MW) looked like a completely different team in the series finale against the Rams (23-15, 8-7 MW).
The first inning was quick with not a single Spartan hit. In the bottom of the first, the team gave up two runs to the Rams.
Although both teams managed to get a couple of hits in the second inning, no runner would reach home before the bottom of the third.
In the fourth inning, Rams designated hitter Amber Nelson hit a double to center field sending in another run. By the fifth inning the Rams led 5-0.
Pitchers Madison Aurin, Caroline Bowman and Desiree Severance all had a busy Sunday as all three struggled in the circle.
The Spartans would fight however, as a bases-loaded walk and a fielders choice in the sixth brought home two.
Senior infielder Emma Entzminger hit a pop fly out to right field ending the sixth with a score of 7-3.
The Rams were able to put up three more runs in the bottom of the sixth, gaining a seven-run lead on the Spartans.
Next up for the Spartans is against the last-place New Mexico Lobos starting on Friday at noon.
