San Jose State beach volleyball will have its hands full against No. 4 Cal Poly Friday as it looks to close the season on an upset.
SJSU (10-11) will look to keep its momentum moving forward as its coming off two wins versus the University of the Pacific and Sacramento State last Saturday.
The Spartans will start off their day playing an exhibition match against Feather River College (5-1) to warm them up for the Mustangs (23-5).
Last season, the Spartans were swept by the Mustangs 5-0 but four of the five matches were sent into a tie-breaking third set.
Cal Poly is the highest ranked team SJSU will face all season.
This year marks the best beach volleyball season ever by the Mustangs. They’ve only lost to No. 1 UCLA, No. 2 Pepperdine, No. 3 Hawaii, No. 5 USC and No. 8 LSU.
The Spartan duo in the No. 2 spot, junior Julia Golbeck and senior Ciara Reistad have an 8-12 overall record.
Mustangs pair junior Samantha Manley and sophomore Emily Sonny are the fifth best in the nation with a 24-4 overall record.
Last Saturday, Golbeck and Reistad won their match against the Tigers but fell to Sacramento State in a three-set match.
The matches will take place in Pismo Beach on Friday with the exhibition match against Feather River College at 12 p.m. followed by Cal Poly at 4 p.m.
