In a non conference matchup against UC Davis, San Jose State took down the Aggies 5-2 behind wins in five of six singles matches.
With one point combined in their previous two matches, the Spartans broke their two-match losing streak with a big win over a Big West tennis powerhouse, UC Davis.
The win marks the fifth-straight season the Spartans have beaten their NorCal neighbor.
“We were off to a slow start but it was good to see the final result,” said head coach Chad Skorupka.
SJSU was down early after losing the doubles point, but dominated the singles winning all but one match.
Senior Sybille Gauvain won in two sets both with a 6-0 score.
“I think we played very well today,” said Gauvain about the team’s overall performance.
Sophomore Tamara Culibrk finished her match in two sets with a 6-2, 6-3 victory securing the point for SJSU.
Freshman Jackie Wagner was last to finish beating her opponent Sara Tsukamoto 10-6 in a tie-breaker.
“I was super nervous in the last set,” said Wagner. “I wish I had won in two sets but I’m happy I won the match.”
The win improves the Spartans’ record to 11-6 as they prepare for another home match on Friday afternoon against the Fresno State Bulldogs.
