Sharks smash fifth-straight win

The San Jose Sharks stretched their win streak to five with a 6-2 win against the New Jersey Devils, placing them No. 2 in the Pacific Division.

In the last five games San Jose has averaged 5.4 goals per game.

San Jose’s (41-23-9) Tuesday win against the Devils (37-28-8) is accredited to six goals from six different players, including all three forwards in its fourth line.

Left-wing forward Logan Couture continued his high-scoring season and hit his 30th goal in the second period, the Shark’s fifth goal of the night.

Couture’s goal signaled four goals on 14 shots against Devils’ goaltender Cory Schneider who was replaced by Keith Kinkaid halfway through the second.

Center Eric Fehr continued to establish himself in San Jose with his third goal in teal since coming from Toronto a month ago. Fehr’s goal put the Sharks on the board five minutes into the first.

After New Jersey left-wing forward Taylor Hall evened the game 11 minutes into the first frame, captain Joe Pavelski retaliated a minute later to put the Sharks ahead on a power-play goal.

Jannik Hansen’s goal through Schneider’s five-hole gave the right-wing forward his first goal of the season, and set the Sharks ahead 3-1 at the end of the first.

Center Barclay Goodrow scored his seventh goal of the season in the second half of the second period, earning a career-best.

Following Couture’s 30th goal of the season, Mikkel Boedker scored the sixth and final goal of the night for San Jose, also on a power play. The Sharks headed to the third period with a comfortable 6-1 lead.

New Jersey got on the board one more time in the final minutes thanks to Blake Coleman. But San Jose goaltender Martin Jones’ 26 saves on the night was the highlight on defense.

The Sharks stay home this week to take on No.1 team in the Pacific Division, the Vegas Golden Knights, Thursday at 7 p.m.
