Baseball looks to belittle Big Green

By Marissa Scott (@marissascotttt ):

San Jose State baseball welcomes Ivy League’s Dartmouth to Municipal Stadium for a Monday afternoon non-conference matchup.

The Spartans (8-10, 2-6 MW) last faced the Big Green (3-8) in 2009 and swept the threegame series at home.

Dartmouth junior infielder Sean Sullivan leads not only his team and the Ivy League Conference with a .511 batting average, but all of Division I baseball with that clip. He also tops his squad with a .556 slugging percentage, a .569 on-base percentage and 23 hits.

It will be interesting to see how SJSU and head coach Brad Sanfilippo decide to pitch  Sullivan every time he digs in tonight.

The Spartans’ five seniors have combined for 64 of the teams’ 89 runs batted in. Brett Bautista leads the team with a .538 batting average and Shane Timmons tops all Spartans with 19 RBIs.

Pitching has been the weakness for the SJSU. As a team, they have a combined ERA of 6.51 and have given up 122 runs while only scoring 95 runs.

The Big Green’s pitching has also struggled this season. The team has a combined ERA of 8.02 and have given up 95 runs while only scoring 64.

In the Ivy League, Dartmouth claims third place behind Harvard and Brown, respectively.

SJSU has played better at home with six of its eight wins coming at Municipal Stadium and four of the home wins have come against non-conference matchups.

The first pitch is slated for 3 p.m. Monday.
