The San Jose State women’s tennis team (9-2) looks to redeem last season’s 4-2 defeat to Saint Mary’s University (6-5) when it travels to Moraga Friday.
The Spartans’ five-match win streak will be tested as the Gaels as it will be the toughest matchup of the month for SJSU.
Last season, Sybille Gauvain and Marie Klocker as well as Marine Dans and Gaelle Rey won doubles points for the Spartans. However, the Gaels dominant singles effort was enough to get past the Spartans.
This year, the Gaels will face undefeated freshman Savannah Sendar (8-0) in singles. Junior Miyo Kobayashi also comes in with a four-match win streak.
Both players are leading the Spartans with 13 points each in singles this season.
Gauvain (7-1), who missed last week’s match with flu-like symptoms, is another Spartan who has been on a tear. She enters Friday’s match on a six-match win streak.
For the Gaels, Hind Abdelouahid leads the her team with a 6-3 singles record, including wins from top Big West competitors — Long Beach State, UC Barbara and Fresno State.
After the game at Saint Mary’s, SJSU will host Santa Clara on Saturday.
First serve is at the Timothy Korth Tennis Complex at 3 p.m.
