Women’s tennis takes swings vs Puget Sound and University of Portland

By Allison Covey (@allisoncovey):

San Jose State’s women’s tennis team will be traveling north to Portland, Ore. to take on the University of Puget Sound on Saturday and the University of Portland on Sunday.

SJSU (5-2) is coming off a 4-0 sweep against the University of San Francisco. Puget Sound (2-2) is also coming off a big 8-1  victory over Spokane Falls Community College.

In the Spartan’s previous match against the Dons, junior Miyo Kobayashi and freshman Laura Malsert played doubles together for the first time, defeating their opponents 6-0.

The other doubles duo sophomores Tamara Culibrk and Clara Mantaux also won their doubles match, 6-3.

It will be the just the third time in program history Puget Sound will compete against a Division I team, having previously played Air Force and Seattle University last season.

The match is set for 10 a.m on Saturday at the University of Portland.

After taking on Puget Sound on Saturday, SJSU will be taking on University of Portland (1-4).

In the Pilots’ last match, the team lost to No. 24 nationally ranked University of Washington 5-0.

The Pilots struggled to come up ahead in all their matches against the Huskies.

With a struggling Pilots team, SJSU will need to keep up the strength of their doubles to help secure a win this weekend.

The match starts at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday at the University of Portland.
