The San Jose Barracuda played their final game with captain John McCarthy before he goes to Pyeongchang, South Korea for the 2018 Olympics.
Coming back from a 3-0 deficit, the ‘Cuda (21-18-1-3) eventually fell to the Tucson Roadrunners in a shootout, 2-1 .
After a scoreless first period, Tucson (25-14-2-1) wasted no time putting itself on the board with a goal from forward Michael Bunting three minutes into the second period.
Bunting scored again two minutes later followed by teammate Lawson Crouse who converted a power-play goal, giving the Roadrunners a 3-0 lead.
Nick DeSimone got things going for San Jose with a power-play unassisted goal at the nine-minute mark of the second. The olympian, McCarthy, set the score at 3-2 with less than a minute remaining in the second helped by Julius Bergman.
The first half of the third period remained scoreless until Jon Martin tied the game for San Jose. The score remained at 3 apiece through the end of regulation and in overtime.
Tucson ended the game with two goals in the shootout to San Jose’s one, giving the Roadrunners a 4-3 win.
Barracuda goaltender Antoine Bibeau made 24 saves on 27 shots on goal and Tucson goaltender Adin Hill won the game with 35 saves on 38 shots.
The ‘Cuda are stay home for the weekend where they’ll play the San Diego Gulls on Saturday at 1:15 p.m.
