Despite one of its better shooting performances this season, San Jose State men’s basketball (3-16, 0-8 MW) fell by 23 to Boise State (17-4, 7-2 MW), 94-71.
The loss shifts the all-time record against the Broncos to 3-31 and 0-16 at the Taco Bell Arena.
BSU veteran forward Chris Sengfelder, who entered Wednesday night averaging 10.2 points per contest exploded for a career-high 31 points guiding the Broncos to their twelfth home win of the year.
A lot of talk entering the game for SJSU was how to monitor NBA-bounded-guard Chandler Hutchison, who had a 19.9PPG averaging prior to Wednesday.
The Spartans kept Hutchison on par with that average, but was able to move into 10th in the all-time career scoring list for Boise State’s basketball program.
The Broncos shot a staggering 38 three-point attempts, the most San Jose State has ever allowed in a game and as a result, 18 were made, the second most Boise State has ever made in a game.
It wasn’t a night of missed field goals for SJSU as the net was moving all night en route to 53.6 percent shooting, but being outrebounded and out-assisted played a factor.
SJSU was edged by four on the boards and nine on the helpers and a -12 turnover ratio squeezed its way in, making it very difficult for the Spartans to find success in the second half.
As for the Spartans, forward Ryan Welage had 22 points and with a first-half three set a tie for third place on the all-time SJSU three-pointers made list at 134.
Coming up for SJSU is a home game against the Wyoming Cowboys, who just came off an impressive one-point, double-overtime upset-win against the No. 23 Nevada Wolf Pack.
