Taylor Turney blew up for a career-high 28 points in her home state of Nevada Wednesday night in Reno, but San Jose State (6-12, 3-4 MW) fell to the Wolf Pack (10-7, 3-3 MW) 91-63.
It’s the fourth straight time going back to the 2015-16 season that the Spartans fail to win two consecutive games away from their home court.
It’s the third straight game the Wolf Pack have totaled over 80 points against the Spartans.
Offensive rebounds, or lack thereof was the storyline for the Spartans in Reno Wednesday night, as SJSU was outscored 25-2 on extra possessions because of its inability to rebound the ball.
The Spartans were destroyed on the glass 57-25 in total rebounds and 23-6 on the offensive end.
Something that’s worked for the Spartans all season was the three ball, and those didn’t seem to fall enough for the visiting team, as SJSU shot just 37 percent (7-19) from long range.
Five players on the Wolf Pack finished in double-figures, but none had more than 6-foot-3 junior Tyrae Briggs, which ended with game a perfect 8-8 shooting for 18 points and nine rebounds in 21 minutes.
As for the Spartans, Turney was the only piece on offense for the majority of the game. At one point in the first half, the guard had 18 of the team’s 29 points, searching for help by her teammates.
She did receive a little help scoring the basketball by freshman guard Danae Marquez, who had her best game scoring the ball as a Spartan finishing with 10 points on 4-6 shooting, three assists and two steals in 11 minutes.
The Spartans’ win-loss record is built or broken by rebounding, as every game SJSU has won this season, it has also came out on top in the rebounding category.
SJSU gets a six day break before hitting the hardwood again next Wednesday as they invite Boise State (11-7, 5-2 MW) to town.
