San Jose State men’s basketball team dominated from start to finish en route to a 90-40 home win against Notre Dame de Namur.
Junior forward Ryan Welage and freshman forward Keith Fisher III led the team in scoring with 16 points each.
“I was really pleased with today I thought our effort and energy was consistent,” said head coach Jean Prioleau. “That’s what we want to do each and every game.”
The Spartans only allowed 11 field goals on 24 percent shooting for the game and their height bothered the Argonauts inside the three point line where Notre Dame only had five made baskets.
“I thought we played a good game overall. Coach always stresses defense and rebounding,” Welage said. “I thought we did good in both those categories. Coach was pretty happy overall.”
SJSU outrebounded the Argonauts 41-27 and shot 54 percent from the field as it continuously fed the ball to its big men in the low post.
“I’m coming off a redshirt year so the guys are doing a good job of picking me up,” Fisher said. “As far as me scoring … our guards do a good job of getting us the ball in the right position.”
Late in the second period, Fisher showed why his season debut has been highly anticipated with an emphatic and-one dunk that he converted into a three point play.
The Spartans open their season on Friday Nov. 10 at home against the University of Antelope Valley at 7 p.m.
