San Jose State women’s soccer team (12-5-1, 9-1-1 MW) will be hoping to keep their Mountain West Championship dreams alive playing New Mexico (12-7-1, 7-4 MW) on Thursday..
The Lobos finished in fourth place this season, and will be coming off of an intense quarterfinal match against Fresno State
New Mexico fell 2-1 earlier in the season to SJSU after junior forward Darriell Franklin and sophomore Jamilecxth Becerra converted their goals just 30 seconds apart.
The Lobos will have another challenge this time around because SJSU has only lost once throughout their regular season.
Leading the charge against New Mexico will be Becerra, Franklin, and senior forward Dorthe Hoppius.
Becerra is the leading goal scorer for San Jose State converting seven goals from 29 total shots.
Along with Becerra, both Hoppius and Franklin have been scoring plenty of goals as well with five goals apiece.
San Jose State have only conceded 19 goals this season compared to New Mexico’s 25.
Although the Spartans seem likely to be the victors, New Mexico have a fighting chance with their top goal scorer, senior midfielder Claire Lynch.
Lynch sits at the top of the scoring list for the Lobos at 10 goals and could be the biggest threat for San Jose State.
The semi-final match is set to kick off at 7 p.m.
