Conference champions looking to continue good form in Mountain West tournament

By Gabriel Luis (@gabelun):

With the Mountain West Championship around the corner, the number one seeded Spartans have a good opportunity to bring a trophy home this year.

San Jose State finished in first place this regular season, claiming the division title with a record of nine wins, one loss and one draw.

Being regular season champions, SJSU will have an advantage and start the tournament in the semifinals following a first-round bye.

The Spartans will have to face either New Mexico or Fresno State for their match on Thursday, following the San Diego State game against the winners of the first quarterfinal match.

The last time San Jose State won the MW championship was in 2015 after defeating SDSU

2-2 (4-2) in a penalty shoot out.

History seems likely to repeat itself as both San Jose State and San Diego State are in the semifinals and set to win each of its respective matches.

San Jose State is currently on a six-game win streak and appear to be fit to keep it going as it recently defeated Fresno State 1-0 and New Mexico 2-1.

The Spartans have a lot to offer this season and sophomore forward Jamilexcth Becerra will be the player to look out for this tournament as she leads the team with 7 goals so far.

San Jose State’s match is set to kickoff at 7:00 p.m.
