The San Jose State men’s golf team got off to a slow start and were unable to turn things around after a ninth place finish in the opening round. Things only got worse for the Spartans as they shot 18-over par 302 in the second round finishing eleventh in the Price’s Give Em Five invitational.
Coming off back-to-back top five finishes, Velo cooled off this weekend finishing 37th overall at nine over par
The junior struggled out of the gate shooting five over par after round one, but turned it around in day two as he shot even-par.
The Spartans continued to struggle as they fell to eleventh place after shot 40-over par through three rounds.
SJSU junior Ben Campbell and senior Matthew Murray played individually meaning their scores did not contribute to the team’s score. On the final day of the tournament Campbell had the team’s best low score as he shot an even par, he finished 13-over par.
The University of Texas El Paso ran away with the victory as it held off No. 24 Marquette University by 10 strokes. The team shot 13 under-par and was led by Charles Corner who shot seven-under par and finished second individually in the tournament.
Corner wasn’t the only the El Paso standout in the tournament as teammates Ricardo Catalan who is a redshirt freshman and junior Aaron Terrazas finished fourth and fifth.
The Spartan’s will try and bounce back at the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational on Oct. 26.
