San Jose State’s swimming team dominated the Malibu Invitational swimming and diving meet at Pepperdine University on Friday and Saturday. The team achieved a difficult feat of sweeping all 16 events at the meet.
The Spartans started the two-day meet strong by winning both races on Friday. Senior Colleen Humel finished first in the 400 individual medley while senior Taylor Lehr finished first in the 500 free.
In the 400 individual medley, SJSU took all five of the top spots and six of the seven top times in the race. Sophomore Violani Auva’a finished in second with a time of 4:37.27 behind Humel with 4:34:31.
In the 500 freestyle, the Spartans dominated by taking all top six spots in the race. Lehr finished with a time of 5:06.55 followed by a second place time of 5:11.02 by sophomore Katie McIntee.
On Saturday, SJSU continued to impress with Humel finishing first in the 50, 100 and 200 backstroke, making her the top winner for the weekend. She also swam two of the legs on the 300 free relay race in which the team also won.
The Spartans had four more multiple-event winners including Lehr in the 200 and 500 free, freshman Jenna Lloyd in the 100 and 200 breast, junior Brittany Heng in the 50 and 100 free and junior Brenna Bushey in the 50 and 100 fly.
Throughout the rest of the events on Saturday, SJSU never faded and continued to place first, taking a win home in every race.
The Spartans’ next meet is the Pacific Invitational in Stockton next weekend from Oct. 27-28.
