San Jose State baseball (17–22, 5-8 MW) lost against Air Force (19-20, 10-6 MW) 16-6 on Saturday.
The Spartans fell short early in the game and stopped scoring at the top of the third inning after gaining three runs within two innings.
The game ended when the Falcons hit ten runs in the eighth inning, similarly to the first game in the series on Friday.
The Spartans’ early lead came when senior outfielder Alex Fernandes scored with a triple, eventually tagging up on a Peyton Rowles sacrifice fly.
Although Air Force reclaimed a narrow lead with two runs in the second, the Spartans answered with a massive four-run surge in the third.
This comeback was fueled by freshman infielder Peyton Rowles, who cleared the bases with a two-RBI triple, followed immediately by a towering two-run home run from senior outfielder and right-handed pitcher Jake McCoy.
“They put up quite a few hits and were pretty offensive, and we were just not relentless enough on offence to keep up.” head coach Brad Sanfilippo said.
Air Force managed to score 14 more runs throughout the remainder of the game.
Every Air Force player in its hitting lineup managed to score in this game, with the final player being sophomore outfielder\ Kayden Bradshaw at the bottom of the seventh inning.
Defensively, the Spartans made a total of four errors in this game.
“I’m disappointed that we did not take care of the baseball,” Sanfilippo said.
The Spartans will finish off the series on 11 a.m. on Sunday in Colorado Springs at the Erdle Field.
