San Jose State women’s water polo (6-12, 0-5 MPSF) lost 19-5 against the No. 2 University of Los Angeles (14-2, 3-1 MPSF) on Saturday, marking its third consecutive loss.
A scoreless second quarter for SJSU allowed for UCLA to further extend its lead to 11-1 before halftime.
Junior attacker Darcy Spark had an electric fourth-quarter, scoring three straight goals within two minutes. She’s at 67 goals on the season, leading the team by a wide margin.
Within 30 seconds of the opening spring, UCLA got on the board.
Senior attacker Emma Lineback got it behind senior goalkeeper Tatianna Raffin to score her first of three goals.
Sophomore driver Sarah Woren would respond quickly for SJSU, but UCLA would counter back with four straight goals to end the first quarter 5-1.
The Spartans wouldn’t see another goal until the second half by junior two-meter defender Rose Jensen.
The Bruins were able to secure seven steals, and create nine turnovers. They shot 58% from the field, and had 10 saves.
The Spartans were unable to match the production, shooting a rough 23%.
Up next, the Spartans will compete in the Aztec Invitational, first taking on Harvard at 9 a.m. on Sunday at the Aztec Aquaplex in San Diego, Calif.
