San Jose State women’s golf came out on top on the second day of the Juli Inkster Invitational at TPC Harding Park on Tuesday.
SJSU shot just one point better (875) than the University of California, Berkeley (876) to claim first place.
The Spartans’ top golfer in the tournament was freshman Regina Roldan. Her score of 217 was enough to tie for third place with Santa Clara University’s Chloe Lam.
Freshman Kleopatra Kozakiewicz tied for fifth place with Boise State University’s Teal Matsueda with a score of 218.
SJSU had three players finish in the top 20, tying UC Davis for the most in the tournament.
They were the aforementioned Kozakiewicz, Roldan, and junior Tessa Kremser.
The Spartans sat in the bottom half of the standings with a score of 300; third round of 290 propelled them to First place.
“We were really clutch down the stretch,” SJSU head coach Dana Dormann said. “A one-shot victory over Cal, I’m just super proud of this team.”
The Spartans finished with a tournament high at 41 birdies.
SJSU will have a monthlong break before traveling to Napa, Calif, for the Chevron Silverado Showdown from April 6-8 at Silverado Resort & Spa.
