The San Jose State softball team (5-14, 0-0 MWC) failed to score against the UC Davis Aggies (10-8, 0-0 BWC), losing 4-0. This marks their third straight loss, and the fourth time they have been held scoreless this season.

The Spartans only got five hits, batting a .217. Freshman outfielder Sophia Burdick got two hits off the Aggies junior pitcher Ashley Sawai as both headed toward left field.

She was perfect at-bat today, making it her third time this season.

Freshman utility Delaney Faus pitched seven innings for SJSU. She allowed seven hits and three runs.

The teams pitched nearly identical numbers. UC Davis had 64 strikes, SJSU had 60, both on 92 total throws. But the Aggies were able to finish and get home more efficiently.

“We had some great hard contact today, ball just didn’t fall our way,” SJSU head coach Tammy Lohmann said.

The Aggies were headlined by sophomore right-fielder Alyssa Dethlefson, who scored one run in the first inning, and another in the third.

Senior infielder Ahmiya Noriega leads the Spartans in hits and runs this season, striking  out once. With three at-bat opportunities, she did not manage to make contact with the ball.

SJSU will try to get back on track by hosting the Silicon Valley Classic against the Santa Clara Broncos at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 7 at the Spartan Softball Complex to start their two-game series.
