The San Jose State women’s basketball team (4-25, 2-16 MW) lost 49-41 to the University of Nevada, Reno (9-19, 5-13 MW), marking their lowest scoring number of the season.
Sophomore guard Maya Anderson continued her strong play, finishing with 15 points, making it her eighth consecutive game with double-digit points.
Despite shooting 26% from the field, Anderson was all over the court, adding on seven rebounds and three blocks.
Without their second-leading scorer, senior guard Amira Brown, the Spartans struggled to find scoring elsewhere.
“It just magnifies every little possession, and every little thing becomes such a big deal when we’re not scoring,” SJSU head coach Jonas Chatterton said.
Back-to-back buckets by Anderson in the third-quarter put SJSU on top 22-18, their largest lead of the night. The Wolfpack countered back with eight straight points to gain the edge once again.
A 3-pointer by leading scorer freshman guard Britain Backus would put Nevada up seven early in the fourth quarter, and they wouldn’t look back.
With two games left in the season, the Spartans will hit the road for the last time to take on Grand Canyon at noon on Saturday at the Global Credit Union Arena in Phoenix, Ariz.
