San Jose State softball (3-10, 0-0 MW) had constant scoring in its 15-3 win over Manhattan University (3-8, 0-0 MAAC) in the third game of the Mustang Classic.
This marked the Spartans’ second win over Manhattan having previously won 3-2 over the Jaspers on Friday, Feb. 20.
Going into the third inning, the Spartans were down 2-0 until they gained momentum and were on fire the rest of the way.
The Spartans outscored the Jaspers 15-1 from the third inning all the way to the end.
In 31 total at-bats, the Spartans scored on nearly half their at-bats.
SJSU scored more runs than Manhattan did the entire game in the third, fourth and sixth innings.
“We were just explosive at the plate today. 15 runs with 16 hits. We had multiple hitters with multiple hits today in the game,” SJSU head coach Tammy Lohmann said.
Senior shortstop Ahmiya Noriega led the scoring for the Spartans, finishing with three hits in as many at-bats, scoring three runs and having four RBI’s.
Senior first baseman Shay McDowell was right behind Noriega with three hits in four at-bats, scoring one run and having three RBI’s.
SJSU freshman pitcher Norah Coulsell had herself a nice game on the mound. Despite giving up 11 hits, Coulsell made up for it as she only gave up three runs.
The Spartans will look for a second straight win in their matchup against Pacific at noon on Sunday, Feb. 22 at Bob Janssen Field in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
