The No. 18-ranked San Jose State women’s water polo team (4-6) earned an 8-4 win over Brown (7-3) at the Sullivan Aquatic Center in Santa Clara during the Bronco Invitational.

After being locked in a 3-3 tie at halftime, the Spartans took full control in the third quarter and never looked back.

The Spartans’ defense stepped up in the second half, limiting Brown’s chances and protecting the lead.

Senior goalkeeper Tatianna Raffin played a major role in the win with 15 saves.

“I’m really happy with our Spartans, it’s a big team effort and some of them stepped up in strong defensive ways,” SJSU head coach Beth Harberts said.

Junior attacker Isabella Adams sparked the surge with two quick goals that shifted the momentum in the Spartans’ favor.

Junior utility player Emma Ruzic added to the run, helping the Spartans build a three-goal cushion heading into the final period.

Junior attacker Darcy Spark and sophomore 2-meter Bridget Cranley each scored twice in the match, providing steady offense throughout the afternoon.

Brown started strong with two early goals in the first quarter, but SJSU stayed within reach and responded when it mattered most.

With balanced scoring and strong defense down the stretch, SJSU closed out the 8-4 victory in convincing fashion.

The Spartans will look to carry this momentum into their next game against Pomona-Pitzer at 9 a.m. on Sunday Feb. 15 at the Sullivan Aquatic Center in Santa Clara, Calif.
