San Jose State women’s soccer continues its road trip with matches this weekend against San Diego State University and the University of New Mexico.
The three teams are both 3-1 in conference matches this season. A Mountain West leader may emerge from the tie after the Spartans face both opponents consecutively. All three are currently tied for second place in the conference, behind Air Force Academy’s 3-0-1 record.
The Spartans play after a shutout loss to Wyoming. SDSU returns home after two wins; both teams having won conference matches against Boise State University and Utah State University.
Dorthe Hoppius scored the game-winning goals in the last two Spartan victories, and has been averaging five shots per game.
The senior forward and team’s leading scorer said last week that some of the results were due to high energy early in the game. Rushing on offensive plays have been characteristic of their strategy at home so far, leading to zone possession and scoring on key plays
Senior midfielder Yaritza Arista has also been part of that as well, through assists on two of five Spartan goals in conference matches.
The game will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the SDSU Sports Deck in San Diego.
