San Jose State women’s golf finished 13th in a competitive 15-team field featuring nationally ranked programs at the Illini Women’s Invitational at Medinah Country Club.
The Spartans posted rounds of 295, 294, and 293 for a 54-hole total of 882 (+18).
While SJSU managed to improve its team score each round, head coach Dana Dormann said the young team is still finding its footing.
“It was not our best day,” Dormann said, “We’re still learning a lot with our four freshmen.”
Freshmen Regina Roldan and Ting-Yu Chang led the team, with Roldan scoring a final-round 71 (-1) to finish tied for 44th at 218 (+2).
In her own right, Chang put up a commendable 70 (-2), tying for 46th at 219 (+3).
Staying consistent, freshman Lotte Schuhr scored a 224 (+8), while junior Moa Andersson and freshman Kleopatra Kozakiewicz rounded out the lineup with a 225 (+9) and 226 (+10), respectively.
Individually, sophomore Isabella Cioe provided the best single round by a Spartan for the tournament with a 69 (-3) during opening day, finishing tied for 41st at 217 (+1).
The invitational hosted by the University of Illinois proved to be SJSU’s biggest test of the season so far, which included teams from the SEC, Big Ten and Big 12.
UCF claimed the title topping the tournament with a 832 (-32), not far behind were SMU (850, -14) and Auburn (851, -13).
SJSU will be back later this month on Oct. 17-19 for the Stanford Intercollegiate at the Stanford Golf Course in Palo Alto, Calif.
