The San Jose State women’s soccer team (6-4-0, 3-0 MW) won its fifth-straight game 1-0 in overtime Friday against the Colorado State Rams (2-5-4,1-2 MW).
The game went into overtime after neither team scored in regulation. Once overtime began, a foul on the Rams lead to a free kick to the box by senior forward Dorthe Hoppius in the 92 minute. The goal marked Hoppius’ fourth of the season.
Both teams had four shots on goal in the game. Despite the lone goal by the Spartans, the Rams outshot the Spartans 14-13. Hoppius had two of the shots on goal by the Spartans.
Currently the Spartans have won two of their past three games in overtime.
The two teams faced each other last season with the Spartans winning won 4-1. Since 2014, the Spartans have won all three matches against the Rams. This win will make it the fourth.
The Spartans’ five-game win streak is the most the team has won since winning six straight back in 2009. On Sunday, the team will face the University of Wyoming in Laramie, Wyo. at 1 p.m.
