San Jose State men’s golf finished fourth out of 23 teams in the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational hitting a total of 854 and shooting a -10 strokes throughout the three rounds.

Leading the Spartans this weekend was the senior duo of Avinash Iyer and Ivan Barahona.

Iyer has started the season hot with back-to-back top 10 finishes, and finishing fifth this time around.

Barhona has also started this season on fire by finishing 15th in his last tournament, and 11th this weekend.

SJSU showed consistency from the jump, in round one as they shot +1 as a team. Barahona shot -2 while Iyer shot even. Just behind them was junior Keshav Mungali who shot +1, and senior Jed Dy who shot +2.

Leading the way on day two were both Barahona and Dy shooting -1, and just behind them were Iyer and Mungali hitting +3. This wrapped up round two with the team hitting +2 on day two which had them sitting at 10th.

Iyer led the way in round three shooting a career best -9, which consisted of seven birdies and an eagle. Barhona hit -3, and Mungali followed just behind hitting -1 alongside five birdies of his own. With the help of Iyer, SJSU wrapped up their best tournament of the season with a -13.

“The guys really rallied today in the final round and I couldn’t be more proud,” SJSU head coach John Kennaday said.

The Spartans look to keep the momentum going into their next tournament at the Jim Delapa Collegiate in Point O’Woods Golf & Country Club in Benton Harbor, Mich., from Sept. 28-29.
