After a dominant performance taking down American River (4-0) 22-9, No. 6 San Jose State (4-1) continued their impressive play with a win against No. 10 UC Davis (3-3) 11-7.
Coming into this game with the highest seed the team has had since being reinstated, SJSU looked to make a splash statement.
UC Davis were coming off of a loss against No. 4 Stanford (3-0) 12-6.
The Aggies sophomore attacker Oleg Shatskikh scored the first goal of the game within 15 seconds of the sprint.
SJSU senior utility Laszlo Szieben responded back with a skip shot goal of his own during a six-on-five power play.
The Aggies had the lead 6-4 with 3:38 left to play in the second quarter.
The Spartans went back and forth with the Aggies in the first half ending up tied 6-6 thanks to a last-second goal from senior driver Mateja Bosic.
Sophomore driver Samu Biros led the Spartans in scoring, putting up four goals, three of which came in the second half.
Fighting to stay in the game, with 0:27 left in the third quarter, junior attacker for UC Davis Timothy Kerr dribbled down the pool and delivered a strike into the cage making the score 9-7 heading into the fourth quarter.
That would be their final points of the day, with Kerr leading the team with two goals.
Junior goalkeeper Brendon Gyapjas was a pest in the net, denying 18 shots from UC Davis, holding them scoreless in the fourth quarter.
The Spartans shot 46% from the field, helping them go 2-0 in the Aggie Roundup Tournament.
Next up, SJSU travels to Cal Berkeley to take on the Golden Bears on Sunday, Sept. 14 at 1 p.m..
