San Jose State softball took down Mountain West conference rival Boise State 3-1 on Friday night in the first game of a three-game series.
The Spartans opened their last home series of the season holding Boise State, with the second-most hits in the conference, to just one hit.
The win was guided by starting pitcher Mia Reynolds, who pitched the whole game, striking out four batters and earning her 12th win of the season.
Reynolds has the most innings pitched in the Mountain West.
“Mia pitched a great game tonight,” said Lohmann “(She) recovers with rest and recovery and lots of ice baths”, said SJSU head coach Tammy Lohmann.
Boise State’s lone run of the evening came in the top of the fifth inning when senior outfielder Megan Lake slammed a triple to left field. Lake then scored on a sacrificial bunt by junior infielder Hollie Farmer.
The Spartans responded to the Broncos’ run in the bottom of the fifth with three runs of their own.
Junior infielder Shay McDowell and sophomore outfielder Haley Reeve both singled, and the next senior outfielder, Jules Ronquillo, RBI’d on a fielder’s choice. Junior infielder Ahmiya Noriega then hit a two-run RBI, the Spartans were up 3-1.
The Spartans got a big crowd Friday night with multiple San Jose softball Little League teams in attendance.
“It’s awesome having the youth out here watching our team play This is what we tell our athletes it’s all about,” said Lohmann. “ It’s about having fun competing and remembering what it is to be a little kid”
The Spartans continue their three-game series against Boise State on Saturday scheduled at 3 p.m.
