After coming off two consecutive 1-0 wins against St. Mary’s and Cal Poly, the SJSU women’s soccer team (3-4-0) will try to extend its winning streak to three games against the Utah State Aggies (4-2-1).
This game marks both teams first Mountain West conference game of the season.
The Spartans will be looking for another stellar outing from their backline. They will have their hands full as they will have to try and contain Aggies freshman midfielder Ashley Cardozo. In the seven games Cardozo has played this year, she leads the Mountain West in game-winning goals as well as shots, while coming in second for total points.
Another key component necessary for stopping Cardoza will be the play of junior goalie Paige Simoneau who has recorded two consecutive clean sheets in a row.
On the offensive side of the ball, the Spartans are hoping to get a solid performance from senior forward Dorthe Hoppius who leads the team in total points.
She has been held pointless in the last four games, and will be heavily depended on in order for the team to be successful in conference play this season.
Kickoff is on Friday at 2 p.m. at the Spartan Soccer Complex.
