San Jose State gymnastics competed in the Haas Quad Meet to end its regular season.
The Spartans put up 194.150 points as a team as they finished fourth.
Freshman Ava Johnson scored a team-high in points on the floor routine with a 9.850.
Overall, the floor team scored 48.825 which is the third-highest total this season.
Senior Madison Kirsch scored a team-high 9.825 on the vault and a team-high 9.850 on the balance beam. California senior Mya Lauzon was first on the all-around with a score of 39.675.
“This was the best practice for us for next week that we could of asked for,” head coach Joanne Bowers said.
Next week the Spartans are competing in the Mountain West Conference Championships, which the Spartans will host.
While the result was not what the team wanted, Bowers emphasized the importance of this quad meet in order to give the team valuable experience in the bright lights playing against top opponents.
The Spartans will not have the task of facing off against two top-15 teams nationally in No. 6 Cal and No. 13 Stanford. However, the top teams in the Mountain West are Boise State, who is ranked 28th and Utah State, who is ranked 31st.
No. 26 Arizona State, who was a part of the quad meet today, is a more accurate representation of the Spartans’ competition heading into the Mountain West Tournament.
As a team, ASU scored a 196.250 to SJSU’s 194.150 as both teams scored similarly across the events.
However, Bowers expressed that the team felt a sense of “disappointment” in the results as they felt they could have done better than their score showed.
“We need to go back to our gym this week and trust ourselves again and get back in the mindset of ‘we’ve got this, this is our home, we can do this,’” Bowers said.
The Spartans postseason begins at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 22 at the Provident Credit Union Event Center.
