San Jose State men’s hockey faces off against Boise State on Friday for its home opener. It is the first of the team’s back to back games this weekend at home.
The Spartans are already off to a strong start following an 8-5 win over UC Berkeley last weekend for the season opener.
After a back and forth first two periods, the team pulled away in the third period to take a dominant win.
A player to watch going into the game is senior forward Jared Anstett, who earned five points in the team’s first game. He was one of the eight players who scored last game, but also picked up four assists.
Another aspect of the team to keep an eye on is which goalie will spend more time between the pipes. While senior Eddie Berlin is the starting goalie, freshman Evan Sutherland played a strong third period last game by only allowing one goal to help the Spartans take and secure the victory.
This home opener for the Spartans is also the season opener for the Broncos. Boise State will undoubtedly coming out strong after two tough losses in the preseason.
The Broncos are also coming to San Jose with a new coaching staff. Head coach Lloyd Ayers is making his college coaching debut with the team along with assistant coaches Todd Cunningham and Marty Flinchel.
Boise State is then hosting a showcase next weekend, which includes eight collegiate teams called the Boise State Bronco Roundup. SJSU is included in the tournament that runs from September 28 to October 1.
San Jose State is looking to continue its win streak with a solid performance at home.
The puck drops at 7:30 on Friday at Solar4America Ice.
