In an intense matchup between San Jose State (14-5) and Colorado State volleyball on Nov. 16 (16-10), the Spartans closed this thriller in the fifth set edging out the Rams 3-2.
The beginning of the match seemed to go Colorado’s way with a number of small SJSU errors that eventually mountained up and allowed the Rams to gain a 17-9 lead in the first set.
Despite the eight-point lead, the Spartans bounced back and made a huge comeback led by outside hitter Nayeli Ti’a taking the first set 27-25.
After the first, it was a back-and-forth match. The Rams were able to take the second and fourth sets after starting off hot offensively.
SJSU however was able to dominate the third set taking its biggest lead of the match 25-17 which was led by senior outside hitter Blaire Fleming who finished the match with 24 kills.
The Rams success came from none other than USC transfer senior opposite hitter Malaya Jones who recorded 20 of the Rams 57 kills. She led Colorado all the way to the fifth and final set.
This fifth set was a fight to the end between both teams however SJSU came out triumphant, ending the set to seal the game and cap off the Spartans senior night.
