Multiple lifetime bests set at SF State invitational

San Jose State men’s and women’s cross country finished in sixth place at the SF State Cross Country Invitational on Saturday with multiple Spartans runners having a day to remember.

The men’s team finished with 131 points while the women’s team finished with 150 points.

There were a total of seven runners who set lifetime bests, with three men in the 8k run and four women in the 6k run.

One of those men was sophomore Alexander Walker, leading the charge for the Spartans in the 8k run, finishing 16th with a time of 25:43.2.

On the women’s side, sophomore Amanda Challburg’s lifetime-best day resulted in an eighth place finish in the 6k run with a time of 22:02.5.

Aside from the personal bests, four men finished in the top 40 for the 8k run: Walker, sophomore Will Bujake (28th), senior Michael Chadwick (31st), and freshman Diego Cortes (35th).

For the women, three finished in the top 40: Challburg, freshman Grace Scott (20th), and junior Nereyda Alvarez-Gonzalez (28th).

San Jose State will look to build on its outstanding performance at 9:00 a.m. on Oct. 19 as the Spartans head to Sunnyvale to compete in the Bronco Invitational.
