San Jose State women’s volleyball (10-3, 5-3) got a 3-1 win over New Mexico (9-8, 2-5), snapping its three-game losing streak.
The Spartans started the game in a dominant fashion, winning the first set by ten and the second by seven.
“We served very well in the first two sets,” SJSU head coach Todd Kress said. “I thought we dictated play from the end line, had them out of system to control that tempo.”
Early success began by a strong start from senior outside hitter Blaire Fleming, having four kills in the Spartans’ first eight points of the match. She led the team with 18 kills, and 23 total points.
The Lobos made it more contested, taking the third set and wouldn’t go away in the fourth after the Spartans took the first two sets.
Going into the fourth set, both teams were tied at 24 a piece, heading into a deuce. A kill by senior setter Brooke Slusser and a service ace by senior defensive specialist Chandler Manusky cemented the win for the Spartans.
They finished the final set with a 10-4 run, returning from a 21-17 deficit.
