San Jose State men’s golf team finished first out of 15 teams in the Alister MacKenzie Invitational held on Oct. 7th and 8th at the Meadow Club in Fairfax, Calif.

It was a great tournament for SJSU senior Zubair Firdaus. Finishing three rounds hitting 23 under par, and five strokes less than the two who finished second.

Finishing right behind him was Sophomore Kashav Mungali, who tied for second. Shooting a total of 195 strokes through three rounds, 18 under par.

The Spartans set the tone in the first round, hitting a total of 264 strokes, putting them at first place to open up the tournament.

The second round saw SJSU get out stroked by 11 against Pacific, recovering well in the third round.

Hitting five fewer strokes than Pacific, ultimately being just enough to regain the first place spot, winning by one shot.

The Spartans will have a couple of weeks to rest up. They’ll play in the Ka’anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational on Nov 2-4 at the Royal Ka’anapali Golf Course in Lahaina, Hawaii.
