Physical contest ends in scoreless affair for SJSU men’s soccer

San Jose State men’s soccer (3-4-6, WAC 2-0-2) go the distance for a scoreless draw against UNLV (3-6-3, WAC 0-1-3).

The Spartans were in full control of this matchup as they shot the Rebels 11 to three.

Goalkeeper Edgar Guerra had a clean sheet on his side as he recorded no saves and didn’t see any Rebel goal threat.

The match got much more physical in the second half, as sophomore midfielder Angel Iniguez led the team in shots with four and three on goal but was sent off with a red card in the 81st minute.

Iniguez the WAC preseason offensive player of the year has been the Spartans most dynamic play maker as the team will look its other players to step up with Iniguez out of its next game.

Sophomore Gilberto Rivera had three shots in the contest and will be a big playmaker for the Spartans in their next matchup.

“I think we dominated, we should have gotten the win,” Rivera said.

The team has been dominant in tis conference play thus far as the currently sit in third place with eight points.

“Angel’s a match winner, but we have a good 11 that we’ll put out here and they’ll do fine,” head coach Simon Tobin said.

The Spartans will look to get a win on the road as they will face the Cal Baptist Lancers (2-4-5, WAC 1-1-1) on Thursday at 7 p.m. at UCR Soccer Stadium.
