San Jose State men’s soccer (2-4, 1-0 WAC) ended its six-game winless streak with a 3-0 win Thursday on the road against Air Force (0-8-1, 0-1 WAC) in its first conference game of the season.
Junior midfielder Angel Iniguez scored all three goals for the Spartans. His hat trick was the first for SJSU since Willy Miranda in the 2020-21 season.
“Coming from a really good performance but not getting the result, I think the group showed a lot of desire to finish the job and keep going,” SJSU associate head coach Jesus Sanchez said in a video posted to the SJSU Athletics website. “And not be satisfied with one goal, but try to get the second and the third.”
It’s the first game all season the Spartans reached the three-goal mark.
The Spartans outshot the Falcons 17-10.
The 3-0 score wasn’t indicative of how the game was, given that SJSU led 1-0 entering the 72nd minute.
The Spartans scored two goals in two minutes to increase their lead to 3-0.
Junior goalkeeper Edgar Guerra had one save and recorded his second shutout of the season. He was one of four Spartans to play all 90 minutes.
Junior forward Diogo Baptista had four shots in the game.
SJSU continued its road trip with a conference matchup against Utah Valley on Saturday which resulted in a comeback 3-2 win.
Up next, the Spartans look to extend their winning streak with a home game against Utah Tech. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday.
