San Jose State men’s water polo (3-1) won both games during day two of the Aggie Invite on Sunday.
The first game was a 15-9 win against UC Davis (5-4) and a 12-5 win against American River (2-2) later in the afternoon.
The first match started out as anyone’s game. The first period ended with the Aggies leading 3-2, but it became more one-sided as the match progressed.
The Spartans started to pull away in the third period outscoring the Aggies five goals to one and stretching the lead to four after the back-and-forth second period, resulting in the two being tied at six going into the half.
SJSU had solid performances from sophomore utility player Mitchell Keightley and junior driver Mateja Bosić who scored over half of the teams’ points with four goals each.
In the next game of the doubleheader SJSU was able to keep their offensive momentum from the last game while holding American River to only five points.
Sophomore goalkeeper Alexey Poletaev recorded 11 saves which was a big part of the defensive effort.
Not only did the Spartans score 12 points in this game, but they shot at a fairly efficient rate shooting 46% from the field as a team.
SJSU was able to showcase an all-around performance throughout this weekend going 3-1 in the tournament.
Following these wins, SJSU is scheduled to host George Washington University at 11 a.m. this Thursday looking to keep the streak going.
