San Jose State men’s golf finished seventh out of 15 teams at the Oregon Duck Invitational at Eugene Country Club.

SJSU finished the three-round tournament taking place Monday and Tuesday, 19 strokes behind winner Illinois.

Sophomore Xuan Luo and Caleb Shetler were tied for the highest-placing Spartans, finishing in a four-way tie for 16th place at 3-over par.

Luo had an efficient second round with 12 birdies, two eagles and four even pars. In the first and third rounds combined, he bogeyed on 16 of 36 holes including 12 double bogeys and four triple bogeys.

Senior Kristopher Stiles finished in sixth place at 1-under par, which would’ve made him the highest placing Spartan but he competed as an individual.

He had a rough second round, bogeying on 12 of 18 holes including five double bogeys and four triple bogeys.

Stiles rebounded and had a good third round with 15 birdies and three even pars.

SJSU finished the Oregon Duck Invitational with 38 birdies and 173 pars.

“We played well. We need to play better,” SJSU men’s golf head coach John Kennaday said. “We finished in seventh place, but a couple of guys played brilliantly.”

SJSU’s next tournament is The Goodwin hosted by Stanford, scheduled for Thursday-Saturday at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco. It will be the Spartans’ last tournament before the Western Intercollegiate and Mountain West Championship.
