San Jose State gymnastics showcased a team effort on Sunday at UC Davis, winning 196.600-195.275.
Many individual and team records were set or tied. The final team score of 196.600 ties for second-highest in SJSU history.
“Today was a true team effort,” SJSU head coach Joanne Bowers said. “Everyone did their job. We’ve been working hard on landings and form, things we can control and it really paid off for us today.”
Lauren Macpherson tied her SJSU beam record with a score of 9.950. She won her fourth beam title this season.
Macpherson wasn’t the only Spartan who shined on the beam, as a new team beam record was set at 39.350. Katherine Weyhmiller earned second place with a career-best 9.925. Marissa Ashton (9.875), Madison Kirsch (9.850) and Jaudai Lopes (9.750) also contributed to the new record.
Mia Nelson earned her first career title with a season-best 9.875 on vault.
Jada Mazury won the bars with a season-high score of 9.900 and Olivia Reardon scored 9.825 to secure second place.
The floor team earned a final score of 49.275. Mazury led the team with a score of 9.925 to tie for first. Other members of the floor team were Lopes (9.850), Macpherson (9.850), Natasha Forrand (9.825), and Devyn Valuch (9.800).
In the all-around, Lopes scored 39.125 and Valuch scored 38.750. It was the freshman Valuch’s first all-around competition of her career.
The team is edging closer to its first-ever Mountain West Championship meet.
SJSU gymnastics will travel to Colorado for a set of meets on March 1 and 3. The March 1 meet is set to be a tri-meet with Air Force and Utah State at 6 p.m. The team will then match up against Denver, Air Force and Lindenwood on March 3 at 12:45 p.m.
