San Jose State men’s basketball (9-17, 2-11 MW) suffered an 82-50 loss on the road against Boise State (17-8, 8-4 MW) Monday night at Extramile Arena. The 32-point loss is the largest margin of the defeat its faced this year.

The Spartans had a tough time scoring throughout the game only scoring 16 points in the first half.

SJSU shot 20% from the floor and was 3/14 from the 3-point line in the first half. Myron Amey Jr., Trey Anderson, and Tibet Gorener were the only Spartans to score going into halftime. The trio combined for 42 of the team’s 50 total points.

“Tough night for the Spartans. We’re not very healthy right now and you can see in the performances,” SJSU head coach Tim Miles said. “I thought we were better in the second half and made progress, we have to build on that as we go to Nevada”.

Alvaro Cardenas ended the game with zero points which was rare him this season. Cardenas played through an ‘illness’ that had been affecting him since Saturday’s game against Wyoming.

The Spartans would have a better second half scoring 34 points but still missed easy points throughout the game. They accumulated more than 20 turnovers in the second half.

Amey Jr. led San Jose State with 21 points and senior forward Tibet Gorener scored 12 points.

Boise State was led by junior Tyson Degenhart scoring 15 points with seniors Max Rice and Chibuzo Agbo both scoring 14 points.

The Broncos scored 38 points in the first half and 44 points in the second half.

With the Spartans’ better second half, they still had no answer for the Broncos offense and defense. They struggled to make baskets with the Bronco’s aggressive defense and their own lack of consistency all over the court.

San Jose State will next take on Nevada at 7 p.m. on Friday at the Event Center for its senior night. Anderson, Gorener and Ryen Perry will all be honored.
