San Jose State women’s water polo (4-4) went 3-1 in its four games at the ASU Invitational held from Feb. 10-11 in Tempe, Ariz.

Day One:

Things got off to a rocky start for the Spartans as they took on the home team, No. 7 Arizona State.

The Sun Devils (11-1) scored 4 goals in the first quarter, forcing the Spartans to play from behind for the remainder of the game.

Spartan freshman Darcy Spark led the way with two goals and three steals. Sun Devils senior Luca Petovary scored three goals of her own, all coming in the first half.

SJSU had a quick turnaround matching up against No.12 UC Santa Barbara (9-5). Spark picked up right where she left off, striking first on an assist from sophomore Sinia Plotz.

With the score tied at 3-3 with just over three minutes left in the game, Spark scored back-to-back goals to seal off the game and her hat trick.

Day Two:

San Jose faced off against Ottawa University Arizona (NCCAA) and showed off its skills in its 24-3 win. SJSU started off the game at 10-0 before surrendering its first goal in a dominant win.

To end the tournament, the Spartans defeated Marist College 12-8. With the score tied at 4, Spartan junior Lucy Miszewski gave them a one-point advantage and they never looked back.

Sophomore Paige Naegle kept the Red Foxes (6-10) in the game as best as she could, scoring a hat-trick.

Up next, SJSU will be going across the street for the Bronco Invitational in Santa Clara, Calif. from Feb. 17-18.
