San Jose State tennis (3-0) defeated Cal Poly (3-1) by the score of 3-2 to remain undefeated.
In both doubles and singles, the matches to be played had both included senior Rozalina Youseva.
“I love being the last one standing,” Youseva said. “When I’m the last one out there, it gives me more energy.”
Youseva was paired with freshman Duru Durgun and the two took down Mustangs, Kennedy Buntrock and Alexandra Ozerets.
Taking that point in doubles for the Spartans after senior Irena Muradyan and freshman Cheuk Ying Shek also defeated a pair of Mustangs.
Cal Poly had rallied back themselves in singles. Tying the score up 3-3 after it had won 3 singles matches and SJSU had only one two thus far.
The weight of the day had fallen upon Youseva facing Mustangs, Romane Mosse.
Their match only went two sets but it truly seemed like these two were locked in a battle that lasted an eternity.
Youseva acknowledged this after the match saying, “I can be out there the whole day when I’m alone. The energy, my team supporting me, it helped me in the last game to win it.”
It did as Youseva went on to win her match 2-0 by the scores of 6-4 and 7-5.
Behind were seniors Carolina Millan and Jovana Babic who also won their singles match both winning in 2-0 sets.
“The seniors came through today,” head coach Chad Skorupka said. “At the end of the matches, it’s a team win.”
SJSU is next set to hit the road to the University of San Francisco on Feb. 14 at 11 a.m.
