Wojcik walks away from final year of contract

San Jose State men’s basketball head coach Dave Wojcik has resigned from his position, according to SJSU Athletics.

Wojcik had one year left on his deal but is stepping down for personal reasons.

“This past year has been emotionally challenging for me with the loss of my father. His passing made me evaluate what is important in life and the value of family,” Wojcik told SJSU Athletics. “With the considerable needs of my widowed mother as well as my son moving to the East Coast after his high school graduation, I believe it is the appropriate time to resign my position as head men’s basketball coach at San José University.”

The Spartans’ chief went 32-90 in his six years in the driver’s seat including a 14-16 mark last year, the only double digit win season under his name.

SJSU and newly appointed athletic director Mary Tuite will immediately begin their search for the next head coach of the men’s team.
