SJSU women’s volleyball will take on Wyoming on Nov. 4 after recent losses and hoping to start November strong with home matches this week.
The Spartans ( 12-14, 3-10 MW) are back on a losing streak after losing close matches to Nevada and Colorado State.
Meanwhile, the Cowgirls ( 16-8, 5-8 MW) are also currently on a two-game losing streak.
The team’s performance this season heavily relies on the standout athletes on SJSU’s roster.
Junior Brooke Slusser made history as the first Spartan to achieve a triple-double, marking a significant milestone for SJSU since joining the Mountain West in 2023. Also, both Slusser and Redshirt Freshman Nayeli Ti’a led the Spartans with 10 kills during the Mountain West match against Colorado State. Freshman Teya Nguyen came off the bench and contributed 16 assists and seven digs.
Last year, The Spartans scored a 3-1 victory in their previous meeting. This could give SJSU an advantage in their upcoming match.
In its last match, SJSU fell to CSU 3-2. In the first set, CSU initially led 1-0, but SJSU quickly tied the score at 1-1 with a kill by Selin Ozdemir.
The set featured several lead changes, with the Rams taking a 12-9 lead at one point, but the Spartans made a strong comeback and ultimately won the set 25-20.
In the second set, SJSU got off to a strong start, securing early points for the team 3-0. Both teams continued to exchange points through kills and errors, but SJSU maintained its lead throughout the set.
The set ended with the Spartans securing a 26-24 victory, highlighting their ability to maintain control and composure during crucial moments of the match.
In the third set, CSU managed to secure the set with a final score of 25-24.
Even though SJSU won in the fourth set and fifth set, their loss during the third set contributed to their overall loss. The Spartans were unable to bounce back from the crucial points Colorado scored during the third set.
The Spartans should look to bounce back in its next match against Wyoming considering they have five games left in the year.
SJSU women’s volleyball takes on Wyoming at the Spartan gym in San Jose at 12:00 p.m.
